Me and my iPhone: Alcatraz!

I’m really excited about tonight’s premiere of Alcatraz, dorky? Maybe. In late October I took a trip to San Francisco to visit some friends and catch my breath mid-wedding season. I had such a fantastic time exploring the city, but by far the best thing I did was a night tour of Alcatraz. It’s going to sound crazy, but I went to San Francisco without my camera. I traveled so much for work last year that I wanted this to be a vacation where I wasn’t getting held up at the airport so they could swab my bag in security or just lugging a backpack filled with gear! I did, however have my iPhone, so expect a few iPhone posts on San Francisco. For today though, in honor of Alcatraz’s premier, I bring you these. Happy Monday!

View the inmates had of San Francisco.

As part of the night tour, they open the hospital wing. It was amazing.

Liberty State Park Engagement Shoot – Lyndsey and Jon!

I’m so excited to bring you Lyndsey and Jon’s engagement shoot. We lucked out with one of those unseasonably warm winter days with pretty gorgeous lighting! It was my first time shooting at Liberty State Park and I loved it. Lyndsey and Jonathan were so easygoing and fun to work with – I can’t wait to shoot their wedding (on my birthday!) this March at The Grove in Cedar Grove, NJ. Congratulations guys!

Interactive Guest Book!

This past weekend was the Lovesick Expo at the Music Hall of Williamsburg. It was a total honor to exhibit along side of a select group of talented and unique wedding vendors – I can’t wait to share more about it.

At the expo I displayed a few of my new products for 2012, but this interactive guestbook was such a huge hit that I knew I had to share it on the blog. The book is 10×10″, 30 pages and completely customizable with images from your engagement shoot as well as questions for your wedding guests to answer on your big day. It makes a truly unique keepsake from your wedding day!

Lovesick Expo!

Come meet me at this year’s Lovesick Expo in Williamsburg, Brooklyn!

“Finally… a wedding expo that doesn’t make you want to die!” – offbeat bride

The Lovesick Expo will feature an elite array of local wedding professionals, and hand-crafted and eco-friendly goods, appealing to more independent-minded couples. This will allow those getting hitched to experience the full-spectrum of options available to them, especially those “beyond the mainstream.” Unlike more traditional expos, Lovesick is proud to be an earth-friendly, guy-friendly, same-sex-couple-friendly, and with options for every budget.

In addition to live music, thousands of dollars worth of giveaways, and other stage entertainment, The Music Hall of Williamsburg will be providing a cash bar for all participants. Don’t miss out as we exhibit the best talent in New York with a laid-back, party vibe.

A Truly Vintage Wedding – Old Field Club, East Setauket – Allison and Greg are Married!

When Allison first contacted me about her vintage wedding, I was super excited. Everything she described sounded so glamorous, I knew it was something I would love to photograph. The more she and I discussed details, the more excited I grew and after seeing her attention to detail for their vintage engagement shoot, I knew their wedding was going to be flawless. I was so impressed with how it turned out, that I had to ask Allison how she pulled it off for the blog. Here’s what she said!

“Greg and I tried to be as genuinely vintage with the details of our wedding as possible. The original concept came out of our love for old movies and we slowly expanded the vision to include other aspects of the era that we enjoy like 1930-40′s jargon, vintage fashion and music. Both my dress, which was very similar to one worn by Katharine Hepburn in the movie Holiday and Greg’s bespoke suit, which we designed from the cuffs up, were the jumping off points. The accessories we used were real vintage pieces that were like new and anything we couldn’t find we made ourselves with the 30′s and 40′s in mind; the same went for all of our reception decorations. I knew right off the bat that I wanted to hand-make as many things for the wedding as I possibly could, the catch was not having them look homemade. I have to admit that at times Greg and I felt slightly overwhelmed by the projects we had undertaken, like the telegram Save the Dates, all of which we baked in the oven to obtain an aged appearance and some of which caught on fire, ha! But looking back I can honestly say that we wouldn’t have had it any other way. At the end of the night Greg and I had received so many compliments that we knew all the effort we put into even the seemingly most mundane detail was well worth it!”

A Sneak Peek at a ReBar Wedding

I realize that there will be a lot of Panama images on here over the next few days, so I wanted to give you a super quick peek at some portraits from John and Vanessa’s ReBar wedding which I shot just hours before jumping on a plane to Panama City! Full blog post to follow!

Me and My iPhone – Panama

So, I’m in Panama! I haven’t seen much of it yet, but I figured I’d still use some photos taken while on the job for the SPCA International. It’s been a bit of whirlwind, I’ll admit! My flight got in Sunday around 3 and I went straight to the Spay Panama site to shoot. After a quick dinner, some uploading and bed, I was back on my way to the site today to shoot some more video and images bright and early this morning. Here are a few quick photos I managed to snap along the way. Can’t wait to see and share more!

How cool is her cat tattoo?

During a detour on the way to the site, we stumbled upon this playground.

The seesaw

A day wouldn’t be complete without me photographing my feet!

Kitties in a birdcage? Yes, please.

There’s a slight chance I was favoring the cats today… so here’s a sweet puppy!

Oh… and I ate fast chinese food here…

Me and My iPhone – More Panama

I finally left my hotel last night and ventured out into Panama City. I didn’t really know what to expect from Panama and being from New York, I always imagine that all cities are walkable and filled with public transportation. I learned quickly that Panama is very much a driving city with no subways to get around (but there are buses!). It’s also a lot more spread out than I imagined. Anyway, I took a taxi to Casco Viejo on a whim. It’s a colonial neighborhood founded in 1673 currently undergoing an ambitious renovation project. If ‘Weird Panama’ existed, I’m certain there would be stories upon stories of the buildings here. I didn’t bring my camera with me (stupid!) because I read in a guidebook that it was dangerous there and that tourists were ‘prey’. It specifically said to not have camera out… I’m not sure why I listened and I intend to go back today or tomorrow with a wide angle and take a ton of photos. But, I did have my iPhone! You can actually crawl inside some of the ruins, which are so beautiful. It runs along the water and you get gorgeous views of the Panama city, lots of textures and local flavor. There was also this adorable vintage store (I may have bought a ring) and a few sweet restaurants. I ate at the Pony Rosso which is an art gallery in addition to a little cafe. I had the Notorious P.I.G. sandwich. Yup, amazing.

Little Bay Park Engagement Shoot – Meet Marysol and Jason!

Marysol and Jason chose their first date spot, Little Bay Park in Queens, for their engagement shoot. I love getting to shoot in new locations and this park has beautiful views of the Long Island Sound and the Throgs Neck Bridge and lots of photo worthy spots. Working with the two of them was so much fun. They brought a ton of energy and excitement to the shoot, which made it a fun day for all of us. I can’t wait to shoot their wedding next year at Stage 6 Steiner Studios!
