Happy New Year!

I interrupt my ‘Best of…” blogs to bring you the following series.

Bright and early this morning I was forced to head outside, not even realizing at first, that it was snowing! While I only had to walk about 5 short and 2 long blocks, I still felt a bit annoyed by having to venture out into the cold. After bundling up and stepping outside, I decided to make the best of it and capture the beautiful snowfall with my iPhone and the CameraBag app.

I really really really love Brooklyn. It’s a pretty inspiring place to live. I try so hard not to take it for granted, but I definitely do sometimes. Especially with the cold, snowy weather, this morning was a nice change to not be rushing to the subway or lugging all my camera gear (though part of me wishes I had brought my 5DmkII). It was just me, empty streets, some fresh snow and a coffee.

Happy New Year everyone!

2009 Best of Kids…

After a couple of relaxing days (ahhh…), I’m really excited to post my best of kids blog! It’s been tough choosing my top ten photos, but also really fun to revisit all of the family and preschool shoots I’ve done this year. Enjoy!!!

2009 Best of Babies…

Wow. When I started going through these baby photos, I was amazed at how many babies I’ve photographed this year! Obviously photographing babies is a total joy and picking a ‘best of…’ selection was really hard. All my favorites ended up being black and white images, which I found interesting. I’m going to try to keep my ‘best of…’ posts to ten images. So here are my top ten favorite baby photos of 2009…

Headshots!

Last Tuesday, I spent the day at Space4Shoots in Manhattan doing a series of headshots. While I love on location shoots, it’s also really nice to be in the studio for the day, especially when it’s freezing out! Here are a few of my favorite shots from the day.

Amanda & Paul

I know, it’s been a long time since I’ve blogged and I still haven’t blogged photos from England! I’m actually pretty behind on posts, but instead of playing catch up, I’m going to blog my shoot from this weekend.

On Saturday I had the pleasure of capturing Amanda and Paul’s wedding which was extra special for me, because Amanda and I used to work together (in my previous life as a speech therapist). Knowing Amanda, I knew it’d be a good time, but I’m not sure I was prepared for how awesome an event it would be! The wedding and reception took place at The Loft in Montclair, NJ – a beautiful space. Amanda, Paul, their families and friends were such a blast to be around and to photograph. Truly, it was a perfect end to the 2009 wedding season!

I don’t normally put family portraits on my blog or even website, but there is just something about this photograph (the couches were all Amanda’s idea) that I really love.

I’m in England!

And I’m having an absolutely amazing time.

I’ve taken lots of photos, but for now I’m going to post one of my favorites. I hope everyone had an amazing Thanksgiving. I’ll write more when I’m home!

Thoroughly Modern Millie

You may remember Rachel from her headshot (here) or from having the lead in Oklahoma (here). Well this is her senior year of high school and for the third year in a row, I had the pleasure of photographing Manhasset High School’s fall musical. I secretly (or not so secretly) love to photograph plays. I find myself tapping along, sometimes even singing along and I always have the songs stuck in my head for days after. I’m a total musical fan…

Here is a sneak peak of Thoroughly Modern Millie, which I photographed during their dress rehearsal. As a matter of fact… as I type this, the curtain is probably opening on their opening night. Break a leg, guys!

Fayez, Mira & Sami

Oh my! It’s been a crazily busy time here, but it feels fantastic. I spent the past week filling lots of holiday print orders (hooray for people thinking of things early!) and posting hundreds of preschool photographs in their galleries! On top of that, I’ve been photographing newborns and families and booking weddings for 2010 – I’m just having a wonderful time.

I’m also happy to mention that I have a minted storefront. Anyone who did a 2009 shoot can visit and order holiday (and other) cards directly from Minted using photos taken during our shoots. If you aren’t familiar with their work – check it out (click me)!

But now onto the title of this post… New Yorkers were so lucky to have such amazing weather last weekend (as it pours outside my window while typing this). Last Sunday I headed uptown to photograph Fayez, Mira and Sami. We spent some time in Central Park (further north than I usually visit – which was great!), their apartment and then at a nearby playground. I think we got some great holiday card shots. Here is a sneak peak at a few of my favorite shots – thanks you guys for fun morning!

Lindsay & Jason

Today was just beautiful! I have been wanting to do a shoot at the High Line for some time now, so I was excited when Lindsay and Jason were up for the idea. While our first attempt got rained out, we could not have asked for a better November morning than we got today. It wasn’t too cold and the sky was amazingly blue and clear! I had a really fantastic time working with them and I’m so excited with how our photos came out.

Enjoy the sneak peak, guys. Thanks for a great morning!

24 Hours

I really, really, really love my job. Some days, when I’m on my way to ‘work’ I get the urge to pinch myself, because it’s hard to believe that I actually get to do what I love to do for a living. There many things I love about being a photographer, but the best things of all are the people I get to meet and the places I get to go.

I’m also luck to be a photographer in New York, because I have an endless supply of amazing ‘backdrops’ and I try to never take that for granted. I also think its amazing that I get to interact with so many wonderful people! From musicians, to new parents, to couples in love, to aspiring actors, to hysterical pre-schoolers… how could I ever get bored?

I’ve been super busy lately, so blogging is going to have to take a bit of a back-seat. But here is a peak at all the fun shoots I had in the last 24 hours (minus all the film I’ve been shooting, which I hope to post soon!).
