Atlantic City Engagement Shoot – Stacey and Christopher

A few weeks back I headed down to Atlantic City for Stacey and Chris’ engagement session. Those who follow my blog might remember Stacey and Chris from Dana and Anthony’s wedding in Jamaica. Post-jumping into Montego Bay (in full wedding gear!), Stacey’s sister threw her bouquet and Stacey caught it! Perhaps the old wives’ tale is true, because I’ll be heading to Mexico exactly one month from now to photograph Stacey and Chris’ destination wedding!

The two met in Atlantic City at the Casbah Nightclub, so it was a perfect choice for their engagement shoot. We had a lot of fun exploring the boardwalk and casinos (occasionally getting ourselves in a bit of trouble). I can’t wait to join the two and their families in Mexico next month!

Newborn Shoot – Eli!

Meet Eli! Eli was only eight days old when these photos were taken. I had a wonderful time working with him and his parents. Usually during newborn shoots, the babies are fast asleep. Parents are always trying to get them to open their eyes, if only for one photo. Eli was the opposite! He would not fall asleep and it was adorable. He was wide-eyed for the first hour and a half of shooting, until he finally fell asleep in dad’s arms. Once he did, he was out and we were able to capture some adorable sleeping photos! Enjoy…

Red Hook Engagement Shoot – Barry and Bethany

I’m super excited to be blogging Barry and Bethany’s engagement shoot! I’ve been looking forward to photographing these two ever since our first meeting and after shooting their engagement session, I can’t wait to capture their wedding this fall! After our plan to start at the Smith-9 Street station was foiled due to weekend construction, we headed down to Red Hook for plan B and I’m so happy we did! Beginning at Fairway and ending up at Ikea, we had a great time exploring some of my old and new favorite Red Hook locations together. The ongoing joke was that they couldn’t stop kissing and they sort of couldn’t, but it is an engagement shoot, right?! They were troopers too, because I had a ‘vision’ for a shot that led to them getting totally drenched by Ikea’s sprinkler system (see last few images). Thanks for a great shoot!

Wedding Portraits – Gaute & Jennifer

I hate when I fall behind on blogging! I intend to catch up over the next few weeks, it’s been really busy (yay!) over here, with engagement shoot after engagement shoot and my Brooklyn is for Lovers project in full swing! Wedding season is upon us and I’m so excited about 2010 (and excited about how 2011 is booking up!). I’ve got lots of exciting shoots to blog, so keep checking in!

Meet Gaute and Jennifer! A lovely couple I had the pleasure of doing a portrait shoot with, before their private ceremony with family and friends in Manhattan. We had a very fun portrait shoot, beginning in Harlem and ending in Chelsea.

Brooklyn Promenade – Surprise Proposal – CJ and Mike

A few weeks ago I had the privilege of photographing Mike’s surprise proposal to CJ at the Brooklyn Promenade. There was a lot of planning, organizing, secret-keeping, and sneaking around that went into this day… I’m super happy to report that it went over perfectly!

Photographing a surprise proposal makes me feel like a wildlife photographer. It’s kind of fun, sneaking around, being super quiet and this time I had to wear a disguise! I know CJ, so if she saw me with a ginormous lens pointing at her, she would probably have caught on to Mike’s elaborate plan! So I piled on several layers and took up a hiding spot far, far away behind a garbage can. I’m quite sure I looked completely insane, but it was well worth it!

Here are a few of my favorite shots from the proposal!

Afterwards, the surprise continued as I hurried off to Buttermilk Bar in Brooklyn to photograph CJ and Mike’s surpise party (also organized flawlessly by Mike and CJ’s friends)! Stay tuned for part two coming tomorrow!

Central Park Engagement Shoot – Colleen and Gary

Gary and Colleen got in touch a few weeks ago to do an engagement shoot while the cherry blossoms were in full bloom in Central Park. What a fantastic backdrop for a shoot it was, so romantic and beautiful. With weather to match the backdrop, the three of us roamed around Central Park for a few hours on Monday morning taking in the spring and photographing away! It was a fantastic time and I’m really excited to blog their session. Happy spring!

Will

Meet Will! He is an adorable four month old who you will be seeing more of throughout the next year, as he’s a ‘Grow With Me’ baby. I had so much fun photographing Will and his parents (and Olive) on Sunday. I also was melting over all the baby things, such as knitted cowboy boots, baby uggs, and converse. Okay, maybe it was just baby shoes?

Will was so happy the entire time and we got so many adorable images that I’m excited to share!

Noah

This is going to be a week of many blogs (I hope). In four days, I did six shoots and I intend to blog them all…

We’ll start with Noah! I first met Noah when he was just born and it is amazing to see how much of a little person he’s turned into in just six months! He is totally adorable and was such a trooper the entire session – I don’t think he got upset even once! Here are a few shots from our session together on Saturday morning. Enjoy!

Kym and Owen

Early this morning I headed to lower Manhattan to photograph Kym and Owen! I met Kym at the BAM Wedding Expo and am super excited to be photographing their wedding this November at ReBar. It was pretty cold and windy, but thankfully it didn’t rain and the overcast sky made for some pretty nice lighting. They were a blast to be around and I look forward to photographing them again this November. Enjoy!

Brooklyn is for Lovers. South Slope.

It’s exciting to be posting my first Brooklyn is for Lovers post! And, it’s pretty fitting that I start with my home neighborhood of South Slope. My hope for this project is not only to spotlight couples in love, and who love Brooklyn, but also to bring attention to the local spots that make Brooklyn the extraordinary place it is.

With that said, meet Jamey and Randi – owners of Roots Cafe. A couple of Alabama natives, one day they decided that they wanted to move to Brooklyn and open a coffee shop. They did, and now their coffee shop is a daily stop in the lives of many South Slopers. A cozy neighborhood staple, regulars drink coffee roasted in Brooklyn from their own mugs that hang on the wall, while around them local artists’ work is displayed and Brooklyn-based musicians swing by to play at night. As Jamey says, it’s a place that fosters a perfect balance of “coffee, community and culture.”

After spending the afternoon photographing Jamey and Randi at the cafe, it’s pretty clear how Roots has become the way it is. If you think the cafe has southern charm and a playful personality, it’s a direct reflection of the owners. The two are an absolute blast to be around, making my job of capturing their love for one another exceptionally easy! One can often spot Jamey behind the counters, and occasionally, Randi will pour your cup as well, so stop by and say hello.

Their love for Brooklyn is obvious in the establishment they’ve built together here. I’m excited to be able to showcase them and their cafe as my first Brooklyn is for Lovers couple!
