I’m so happy to be posting my best of engagement shoots for 2009. It was only mid-2009 that I began including engagement shoots as a part of my wedding package, but I’ll never go back! I have found that brides and grooms who take advantage of engagement shoots feel more at ease being photographed on their wedding day. They know how I work and we both get to know each other’s personalities more. It’s like a dress rehearsal!
Today was just beautiful! I have been wanting to do a shoot at the High Line for some time now, so I was excited when Lindsay and Jason were up for the idea. While our first attempt got rained out, we could not have asked for a better November morning than we got today. It wasn’t too cold and the sky was amazingly blue and clear! I had a really fantastic time working with them and I’m so excited with how our photos came out.

I couldn’t wait to photograph April and Michael for their engagement and I’m really happy they were patient with me in scheduling the shoot. Now on the drive up to Pennsylvania, I have to admit I was a little bit (or, er, very) nervous! It WAS like a monsoon (as predicted by April the day before). There were times when I could barely see the car in front of me! Thankfully when we got to the lake house, it was only drizzling, so we grabbed our umbrellas and set out to take some photos. Sadly, the first image is the only one we got before the skies opened up and we were drenched!
But after some delicious homemade vegetable soup at Michael’s parent’s (thanks!) and the absolute best oatmeal cookies I ever ate, we had the energy to ‘take 2′ and head back outside. Thankfully the second time ’round mother nature more than cooperated – we even saw some blue skies. We hiked (yep, I really mean hiked) through the woods and over waterfalls together and got some pretty amazing shots.

Oh fall, how I love you. I know, I know it’s not technically fall yet, but the weather we have been having lately feels like it! I’m not sure why, but I get most motivated during the fall. Maybe it’s imbedded in me from my days of school – fresh start, new notebooks and pens, new school clothes. I just feel so happy! This fall is going to bring so many wonderful things. I have more bookings than ever (even tackling two weddings a weekend). It’s exciting and it feels like a fresh new start.
Yesterday was a perfect day for a photoshoot. I met up with David and Laura in City Hall Park for their engagement session. All day I had my eye on the sky, hoping it would stay as gorgeous as it was in the morning. It did! It was a beautiful shade of blue with ‘Simpsons’ clouds. The shoot was such a great time! While I’ve taken many photographs in the Seaport area, I have never done a proper shoot there. David and Laura were so outgoing and they had great ideas! It’s so nice as a photographer to work with a couple who are excited about their photos and willing to take risks and play around a bit.
I’m so excited to share these photographs and, stay tuned, there will be lots and lots and lots of blogging going on this month and next.
David spotted this door and ‘had to have it’. I think the ‘beer by door’ series are my favorite shots from the day. It’s so nice to be able to capture a couple just being themselves, interacting and having a good time!
Just as the sun was starting to set, we made it to our target destination – the fountain in City Hall Park, where David proposed to Laura.

Wow. I haven’t blogged in some time, but with good reason! (1) I’ve been mainly doing Hip Hop shoots and I can’t post any images from magazine shoots until they’ve been published… (2) I’ve been pretty sick.
Anyway, I met up with Farideh and Jon on Saturday in Flushing Meadow Park. As most east coasters can tell you, it was the COLDEST day of the year. I believe temperatures were in the low 30s, but the wind…! I feel that me, Farideh and Jon deserve some sort of an award, definitely, for braving the cold. Regardless of numb limbs, an uncooperative flash AND memory card, and the wind speed – it was a great engagement shoot. They are an adorable couple who were so much fun to be around. Also, Farideh has a wealth of knowledge regarding Flushing Meadow Park. I learned so much history!
Thanks for a great shoot. Enjoy Florida you two, you deserve some warm weather!
